If you’re willing to fly in basic economy, American and United are offering pretty great fares from multiple US cities to Los Angeles (LAX). United’s offering low fares from a number of cities, such as Houston (IAH), Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW) and Cleveland (CLE), and American’s offering similar fares from Dallas (DFW). JetBlue has two notable regular economy fares from Boston (BOS) and Orlando (MCO).

Keep in mind that most of these (with the exception of JetBlue) are basic economy fares. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, you can secure a Main Cabin ticket, which will allow you more flexibility in your travel without the chance of getting nickel-and-dimed. Certain credit cards, such as the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard and the United MileagePlus Club Card can help you defeat the extra fees that come with booking a basic economy ticket.

Airline: American/JetBlue/United
Routes: BOS/CLE/DFW/IAH/MCO/ORD to LAX
Cost: $80+ Basic Economy / $96 Main Cabin round-trip in economy
Dates: November 2017 — February 2018

Right now both low cost carriers and full service airlines are having a massive sale on flights from the US to Europe — with prices starting at $359 round-trip. It seems that fares from most large cities in the US to the European destinations of Amsterdam (AMS), London (LGW), Milan (MXP), Paris (CDG), Rome (FCO) and Venice (VCE) are on sale. And if you’re not flying out of a large airline hub, flights from some smaller cities don’t cost too much more.

You’ll want to use a service like Google Flights when searching, then plug in your ideal departure city and destination. There’s plenty of availability on most routes from November 2017 through May 2018.

Keep in mind that budget carriers like Norwegian or Icelandair will charge for checked bags — but if you go with a full service carrier like Iberia or United checked luggage, seat selection and meals will be included in your ticket.

Airline: American, Delta, Iberia, Icelandair, KLM, Norwegian and United
Routes: US to AMS, CDG, FCO, LGW, MXP, VCE

If you’re looking to visit Spain soon, you’re in luck. Strong competition from low-cost carriers has driven prices down to major España cities Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN). The cheapest flights right now are nonstops on low-cost carrier Norwegian — while you can use its US website to book these flights for cheap, you can save more by using an international version of the site. Just make sure to buy your ticket with a credit card that has no foreign transaction fees.

The easiest way to find these deals is to search for cheap dates via Google Flights. Then click through to OrbitzExpedia or the airline directly to book your tickets. While the Norwegian options are cheaper using the foreign website trick, most of the other airline itineraries are more straightforward to find and purchase.

Airlines: Norwegian/TAP Portugal/LEVEL/Delta/American
Routes: FLL/LAX/EWR/BOS/OAK/MIA/JFK to BCN/MAD

Deal Alert: US Cities to China From $442 Round-Trip

$

Want to see the latest flight deals as soon as they’re published? Follow The Points Guy on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribe to text message alerts from our deals feed, @tpg_alerts.

Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

It’s been more than a month since we’ve seen an airfare deal to China on full-service carriers, but today we’ve got a great one. The Big 3 US legacy carriers — American, Delta and United — along with ANA are offering excellent prices on flights to both Beijing (PEK) and Shanghai (PVG) for as low as $442 round-trip. Even better, you’ll find departures not only from major cities like Boston (BOS) and Los Angeles (LAX), but also mid-size and smaller cities such as Orlando (MCO) and Hartford, Connecticut (BDL).

These prices are generally available from November through early June except for the December holiday period, and you don’t need any tricks to find them. Just search the dates you want with Google Flights, then book on OrbitzExpedia or directly with the airline itself. These are international trips on mainstream carriers — and not in Basic Economy — so in most cases passengers will get their first checked bag free and a complimentary meal during the flight.

You probably can’t take advantage of China’s “visa-free transit” policy since these itineraries don’t include a visit to a third country, so make sure you get the right visa before traveling or you won’t even be able to get on the planeTPG recommends using a third-party service like Allied Passport & Visa and if you mention The Points Guy on your order form, you’ll get a $5 discount.

Airlines: American, Delta, United, ANA
Routes: BOS/BDL/MCO/ORD/LAS/PHX/SAN/LAX to PEK/PVG
Cost: $442+ round-trip in economy
Dates: November through early June
Booking Link: Orbitz or Expedia

Deal Alert: West Coast to New Zealand From $716 Round-Trip

If you got in on the Air New Zealand error fare to Australia back in September only to see it cancelled a few days later, here’s another way to get down to the Australasia region without breaking the bank. Hawaiian Air is currently offering great prices on trips to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) from multiple cities on the West Coast, including San Francisco (SFO), Phoenix (PHX), Seattle (SEA), Las Vegas (LAS) and Los Angeles (LAX) starting as low as $716 round-trip in economy.

What’s really interesting about this fare is that it can be booked as two separate one-ways, and sometimes by doing so, the price gets even cheaper. So if you wanted to book with cash in one direction and use points or miles for an award redemption in the other direction, this is a great chance to do it.

You’ll find most of these airfares from November through September 2018, and you don’t need any tricks to get these prices. So just use Google Flights to pick the dates you want — again, make sure you search for the legs as one-ways to see if the price is lower that way — then book on OrbitzExpedia or directly with Hawaiian itself.

Airline: Hawaiian Airlines
Routes: SFO/SEA/PDX/LAX/LAS to AKL
Cost: $716+ round-trip in economy
Dates: January-September
Booking Link: OrbitzExpedia or with the airline directly
Pay With: The Platinum Card from American Express (5x on airfare), Chase Sapphire Reserve, Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, Citi Prestige (3x on airfare) or Chase Sapphire Preferred (2x on travel)

Here are a few examples of what you can book:

San Francisco (SFO) to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) for $716 round-trip via Orbitz:

Phoenix (PHX) to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) for $791 round-trip via Orbitz:

Seattle (SEA) to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) for $791 round-trip via Orbitz:

Las Vegas (LAS) to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) for $791 round-trip via Orbitz:

Los Angeles (LAX) to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) for $455 one-way via Orbitz:

Flash Sale: Conrad Chicago Anniversary Special With Rooms From $11 Per Night

$

0

At 11am CT/12pm ET today (November 14), the Conrad Chicago is launching its anniversary special: rooms for just $11.14 per night. But, you better act quickly to get this rate; it’ll only be available for 24 hours. And, there’s limited availability.

You must call 1-844-676-2522 and ask for reservations to book this special. Mention the group code “1YEAR” for the spectacular rate. The deal is available for stays from November 15, 2017 to March 31, 2018 — except blackout dates of November 24 to 29, December 31 and January 21 and 22. Only three rooms per night will be available at this rate. Once those are sold out, a secondary nightly rate of $111.40 will be available for the duration of the sale.

In case you’re interested in what the hotel is like, here’s our full review. Spoiler alert: it’s spectacular. One of the only downsides is the price. TPG paid $349 per night to stay there when it was reviewed, so if you can snag the $11.14 rate, you’ll get a 97% discount off that rate!

In addition to this being an excellent deal, it’s also a fundraiser. According to the hotel’s website:

A percentage of the proceeds from this flash sale will benefit Youth Guidance, a non-profit organization that creates and implements school-based programs that enable at-risk children to overcome obstacles, focus on their education and, ultimately, succeed in school and in life.

Delta Flash Sale: Awards to London From 48,000 SkyMiles Round-Trip

$
0
0

Have you been trying to plan a trip to London? You’re in luck — Delta’s offering a flash sale on flights from select US cities to London Heathrow (LHR). Economy round-trip award tickets start at 48,000 SkyMiles plus taxes and fees in the Main Cabin.

In order to take advantage of this promotion, you must purchase your ticket by November 15, 2017 at 11:59pm Eastern. According to the terms, the eligible travel period is from January 9 to May 10. Flights must be operated by Delta, which means Virgin Atlantic awards aren’t eligible for this promo.

Right now, availability seems wide open on many routes. Just be forewarned that award flights from London have infamously high taxes and fees.

Here are some examples of what you can book:

New York’s JFK to London (LHR) for 48,000 SkyMiles + $184 round-trip in economy:

Atlanta (ATL) to London (LHR) for 48,000 SkyMiles + $184 round-trip in economy:

Los Angeles (LAX) to London (LHR) for 48,000 SkyMiles + $190 round-trip in economy:

Chicago (ORD) to London (LHR) for 48,000 SkyMiles + $190 round-trip in economy:

Detroit (DTW) to London (LHR) for 48,000 SkyMiles + $184 round-trip in economy:

Bottom Line

Delta doesn’t publish an award chart, so there’s no telling just exactly how discounted these award sale fares are. However, if you’re thinking about taking a trip to London and have the SkyMiles to spend, this could be a good deal.

If you don’t have enough SkyMiles in your account, consider signing up for one of the Delta SkyMiles credit cards from American Express to ensure you’re able to take advantage of an offer like this next time one pops up. For example, the Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express comes with a sign-up bonus of 30,000 SkyMiles after you spend $1,000 in the first three months. Plus, you’ll get a $50 statement credit after you make a purchase with your card within the first three months. You’ll earn 2 miles per dollar on Delta purchases and 1 mile per dollar on everything else.

Iceland is still one of the world’s hottest travel destinations, and while you’ll pay a pretty penny for everything from lodging to rental car fuel once you’re on the ground, actually getting to the country can be dirt cheap. That’s thanks to WOW Air — the carrier continues to offer $199+ fares from much of the US to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF), including round-trip departures from Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), Baltimore (BWI), Pittsburgh (PIT) and more.

Exact availability depends on where you’re originating from, but we’re generally seeing low fares for departures from December 2017 through March 2018. Use Google Flights to find the dates you want, then book directly with the airline. Note that WOW Air is a low-cost carrier, so carry-on and checked bags, seat assignments and other items you’ll find bundled with legacy carrier fares require an additional fee with WOW.

Ski Resorts Opening November 17, Last Chance to Purchase Epic Pass

$

Ski season officially kicks off for many resorts on November 17th, which means it’s finally time to hit the slopes, carve through fresh snow and show off your skiing (or snowboarding) skills. This also means you only have a few days left to purchase your Epic Pass for the 2017-2018 season.

With Epic Pass, you score unlimited skiing this winter at some of the country’s best resorts, including Heavenly in Lake Tahoe, Arapahoe Basin in Colorado and Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont. But you better hurry because you only have until November 19th to make your purchase ($899 for adults age 13+ and $469 for children 5-12 years of age).

The pass comes with plenty of international perks, too, like limited access to 4 Vallées in Switzerland, Skirama Dolomiti in Italy and Tignes-Val D’Isere in France. During the first 30 days alone, your pass unlocks exclusive deals on rentals and lodging, events, and weather updates so you can kick off ski season right.

With one of these in your pocket, you’ll save more than 40% when compared to lift ticket window prices — which means more dough to spend warming up in the lodge aprèsski.

It’s not at all unusual to see round-trip flights from the US to Iceland for $200 or less, but more often than not these flights are on low-cost carrier WOW Air, which charges for just about everything. Today, however, Delta’s offering flights from a bunch of US cities to Reykjavik (KEF) for prices as low as WOW’s. The carrier is offering fares for as little as $228 round-trip, which has us thinking that this may be an error fare. Since Delta is a full-service carrier, you’ll get one free checked bag along with complimentary meals, entertainment and more. Plus, several of the cities included in this sale are ones that usually miss out on WOW’s bargain-basement fares, such as Raleigh (RDU) and Phoenix (PHX).

These prices are generally available from December 2017 through February 2018. Just search the dates you want with Google Flights, then book on OrbitzExpedia or directly with Delta’s partners Air France or KLM. Note that many of these flights include long layovers in New York (JFK) on the return, but these prices make that fact easier to overlook.
