$

0

Ever since it launched its SkyMiles Deals page, Delta has consistently offered some pretty great sales on award tickets. This time, it’s offering discounted domestic flights with pricing starting at just 10,000 miles round-trip. Departures are available to and from cities like Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (LGA), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA) and more.

While Delta doesn’t have an award chart, most of these rates are much lower than normal — transcon flights are going for as little as 17,000 miles round-trip and one-ways are going for half that. If you’re short on miles, remember that you can instantly transfer American Express Membership Rewards points into your SkyMiles account at 1:1 ratio.

You’ll need to book flights by tomorrow, Aug. 15, to take advantage of the sale, with departures available from Sept. 15 through Nov. 15. While Delta’s only advertising select cities, it appears to be available from almost everywhere Delta flies.

Amazing Deal Alert: Award Flights to Europe From 22,000 SkyMiles Round-Trip

$

While we’ve recently seen some enticing Delta award flash sales (e.g. domestic: 10,000 miles round-trip, Mexico: 12,000 miles round-tripAsia: 40,000 miles round-trip, Australia: 58,000 miles round-trip), today’s might be the best ever. Nonstop flights to Europe are currently pricing as low as 22,000 SkyMiles round-trip. It’s rare to book an award ticket to Europe for anything less than 34,000 miles round-trip through any mileage program.

At current TPG valuations, 22,000 SkyMiles are worth just $264. Adding in taxes and fees starting at $57 and this is equivalent to scoring a $321 round-trip deal. But, what’s especially valuable about these awards are that they book into the Main Cabin, not basic economy. So, you’ll be able to check up to a 50 pound bag each way for free.

If you’re short on miles, remember that you can instantly transfer American Express Membership Rewards points into your SkyMiles account at 1:1 ratio.

This is an unpublished flash sale, so it could disappear at any time. Make sure to jump on this quickly.

Airline: Delta
Routes: US Cities (JFK/SFO/ORD/DEN/LAX and likely others) to Europe (ZRH/BRU/FRA/MAD/LHR and likely others)
Cost: 22,000+ SkyMiles and $57+ round-trip in economy
Dates: October to May with the best availability in January-March
Booking Link: Directly with Delta
Pay Taxes/Fees With: The Platinum Card® from American Express (5x on airfare), Chase Sapphire ReservePremier Rewards Gold Card from American ExpressCiti Prestige (3x on airfare plus excellent trip-delay insurance) or Chase Sapphire Preferred (2x on travel)

Here are a few examples of what you can book:

Los Angeles (LAX) to London Heathrow (LHR) for 30,000 miles + $185 in taxes and fees round-trip:

Check out this post for more on maximizing airfare purchases.

If you don’t have enough SkyMiles in your account, consider signing up for one of the Delta credit cards to ensure you’re able to take advantage of a deal next time one pops up. For example, the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express currently comes with a bonus of 60,000 SkyMiles after you spend $3,000 in the first four months. Offer ends Sept. 19. Also, this is a great card for defeating basic economy.

Aloha from Hawaii! My wife Katie and I are currently here because of a past flight deal from Atlanta. If you’re looking to check out the 50th state for yourself, you’re in luck — there are a number of great flight deals from coast-to-coast that’ll let you do just that. You can fly from San Diego (SAN), Portland (PDX), San Francisco (SFO), Phoenix (PHX), Seattle (SEA), Houston (IAH), Denver (DEN) and Newark (EWR) to Lihue (LIH), Kona (KOA), Kahului (OGG) and Honolulu with fares starting from $333 round-trip.

No need to worry about the volcano eruption ruining your trip. Fortunately, the eruption has slowed notably. There’s a reason that they call the island of Hawaii the “Big Island” — even when the eruption was happening, the air quality wasn’t bad in the resort area of Kona. Current air quality in Kona bests most places on the mainland:

We are seeing unbelievable deals from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) to Shanghai (PVG), Bangkok (BKK), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Bali (DPS) in business class on Hong Kong Airlines, with prices starting at just $561 round-trip. Hong Kong Airlines flies its new Airbus A350 on the route, which features lie-flat business class seats in a 1-2-1 formation. Business class fares on this route usually go for more than $3,000.

You can book through either Expedia or Hong Kong Airlines’ website itself. This is likely an error fare, so you’ll want to wait to book accommodation until your itinerary is ticketed. There are many cases where error fares like these are canceled, but sometimes airlines will honor them. TPG News Editor Emily McNutt was able to successfully purchase a ticket through Expedia.

Want a beach vacation but you’ve been to Hawaii too many times already on all the recent flight deals? How about another amazing destination where you don’t need a passport to visit: the US Virgin Islands! Despite the devastation that the islands endured last hurricane season, the US Virgin Islands are open for tourism and they need your support.

Delta Flash Sale: Australia From 50,000 SkyMiles Round-Trip

Delta’s SkyMiles program doesn’t have the best reputation, but it’s making itself known for offering some enticing award flash sales. Just a few days ago, it launched the best offer yet: 22,000 SkyMiles round-trip to Europe. But, there’s been plenty of other sales (domestic: 10,000 miles round-tripMexico: 12,000 miles round-tripAsia: 40,000 miles round-trip)

The last Australia flash sale offered awards starting at 58,000 SkyMiles round-trip, but Delta has now discounted Australia award flights even further down to just 50,000 SkyMiles round-trip. That’s spectacular when you consider both American Airlines and United charge no less than 80,000 miles round-trip for Australia flights.

At current TPG valuations, 50,000 SkyMiles are worth just $600. Adding in taxes and fees starting at $116 and this is equivalent to scoring a $716 round-trip deal to Australia.

If you’re short on miles, remember that you can instantly transfer American Express Membership Rewards points into your SkyMiles account at a 1:1 ratio.

Airline: Delta
Routes: US Cities (ATL/BOS/SEA/JFK/PDX and likely others) to SYD
Cost: 50,000+ SkyMiles and $116+ round-trip in economy
Dates: August 23 through December 9
Booking Link: Directly with Delta
Purchase by: August 22
Pay Taxes/Fees With: The Platinum Card® from American Express (5x on airfare), Citi ThankYou Premier CardChase Sapphire ReservePremier Rewards Gold Card from American ExpressCiti Prestige (3x on airfare plus excellent trip delay insurance) or Chase Sapphire Preferred (2x on travel)

Here are a few examples of what you can book:

Atlanta (ATL) to Sydney (SYD) for 50,000 SkyMiles + $116 in taxes and fees round-trip in September:

Boston (BOS) to Sydney (SYD) for 50,000 SkyMiles + $116 in taxes and fees round-trip in October:

If you don’t have enough SkyMiles in your account, consider signing up for one of the Delta credit cards to ensure you’re able to take advantage of a deal next time one pops up. For example, the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express currently comes with a bonus of 60,000 SkyMiles after you spend $3,000 in the first four months. This offer is only available through September 19, but there’s no time like the present to start earning those bonus SkyMiles. Plus, this is a great card for defeating basic economy.

Icelandair is offering crazy-cheap flights to London from across the US. Due to the high taxes/fees out of London, some of these base airline fares start at just $23. So, it really doesn’t get cheaper than this.

Note that some of the cheapest options require an overnight in Iceland on the return leg. If you want to make it a two-in-one trip, you can stretch this layover into a multi-day stopover for no additional airfare. You’ll want to book these flights directly through the airline to take full advantage of the perks.

Although its a low-cost carrier, Icelandair actually provides a decent in-flight experience. In addition to including a free carry-on bag for all economy passengers, Icelandair provides free in-flight entertainment via seatback screens, has USB power ports and even provides pillows:

Deal Alert: Award Flights to Europe From 24,000 SkyMiles Round-Trip

$

Last week, Delta ran an unadvertised award sale to Europe with jaw-dropping fares as low as 22,000 SkyMiles round-trip. Today, the airline is back with an award sale that’s nearly as good. Although there are only a few routes listed by Delta, we are finding numerous other destinations that are discounted — and some are even cheaper than the 26,000-mile fares being advertised:

At current TPG valuations, 24,000 SkyMiles are worth just $288. Adding in taxes and fees starting at $57 and this is equivalent to scoring a $345 round-trip deal. But, what’s especially valuable about these awards are that they book into the Main Cabin, not basic economy. So, you’ll be able to check up to a 50 pound bag each way for free.

For reference, it’s rare to book an award ticket to Europe for anything less than 34,000 miles round-trip through any mileage program, making this an excellent deal. This joins long list of recent enticing Delta award flash sales (e.g. domestic: 10,000 miles round-trip, Mexico: 12,000 miles round-tripAsia: 40,000 miles round-trip, Australia: 58,000 miles round-trip).

If you’re short on miles, remember that you can instantly transfer American Express Membership Rewards points into your SkyMiles account at 1:1 ratio.

However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.
